Denver's 'Record' Catch
May 1997
On May 25th, 1997, Denver was fishing with The Men at an unidentified hole when he landed this monster of a walleye (a.k.a "Wally"). Wally measured 29.5 inches and weighed in at over 9 pounds! It is believed to be the largest walleye caught by The Men in their 25+ years of fishing at Forest Lake. Way to go Denver!
I was somewhat skeptical upon hearing of this "record" catch -- Denver said it was so-o-o-o big that it wouldn't fit in the live well. Well, photo documentation tells no lies and I now realize the significance of that statement! What a huge fish!
Our policy is to release trophy fish after they have been landed (and a picture taken) so they can spawn many more future generations of keepers and trophies. After this picture was taken, Wally was released back to the depths of Forest Lake where he hopefully continues to cruise the bottom in search of our next jig.
